Protect your precious furbaby - Guard your dog’s health the “Nexgard” way
South Africa, 7th July, 2020 - Boehringer Ingelheim, a world leading animal health company, has launched NexGard Spectra®, a complete parasite protection treatment available in one tasty beef-flavoured chew that your dog will think is a treat.
Staying on top of your furbaby’s flea and worm treatment is important both for your pet and for everyone else in your household. Keeping tabs on when to administer it, and making sure that you have the correct products to treat a range of worms, mites, fleas and ticks can however be a challenge. That is about to change as NexGard Spectra® is now licensed for prevention of multiple parasites with a simple, convenient and easy-to-remember treatment routine.
This unique product provides protection against Spirocerca lupi, hookworms, roundworms, sarcoptic mange, demodectic mange, ear mites, whipworms, heartworms, fleas and ticks.
Carmen du Toit, Nexgard Spectra® Product Manager at Boehringer Ingelheim explains the ease of this user-friendly product: “Until now, veterinarians have had to recommend a combination of products to get the same results that NexGard Spectra can accomplish , or make a choice between which parasite represents the greatest risk for each dog and treat accordingly. NexGard Spectra® not only treats Ecto parasites but with one chew it also treats endo parasites including gastro-intestinal (GI) roundworms and preventive treatment for Spirocera Lupi, making it a suitable option for pets and their families where zoonotic risks need to be considered.”
Nexgard Spectra® has demonstrated excellent safety in both adult dogs and puppies, where a single palatable, soy protein, beef-flavoured oral chew can be administered once a month for a convenient and easily remembered treatment routine. With more than 70 million doses sold worldwide, the broad-spectrum chew kills parasites inside and out in one easy step.
“South African dog owners have previously had to rely on multiple products, and not all administered in equally-timed intervals, to ensure the health of their four-legged friends. As a new combination-prevention product, NexGard Spectra® will be beneficial for pets’ overall health, enable better compliance and offer protection against parasites and associated diseases that can even affect human better owner compliance” says Dr Michelle Enslin, Technical Manager for Pets.
“Our passion for improving animal health has always been the top priority, and we believe in disease prevention for the whole family. We are confident that our innovative solution will help pets and pet parents, customers and veterinarians to protect the health of their fur-babies in a more consistent and convenient way," says Retha Kok, Head of Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health South Africa.
NexGard Spectra® can be used from 8 weeks of age in puppies weighing more than 2 kilograms and has a well-tolerated safety profile. It is available in packs of singles or three-pack chews, with five different presentations to ensure accurate dosing according to bodyweight (2-3.5 kgs, 3.5-7.5 kgs, 7.5-15 kgs, 15-30 kgs and 30-60 kgs).
NexGard Spectra® is here to help you protect your furry family with ease and peace of mind so that you have more time to focus on the important things, like loving them! Speak to your local veterinarian or visit www.nexgard.co.za for more information.
